A TREASURED community centre will celebrate 30 years since it opened its doors to Maldon residents, this Saturday (September 14).
Festivities at the West Maldon Community Centre will kick off with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
Money raised throughout the day will go towards the centre’s chosen charity, Mid and North East Essex Mind.
A centre spokesperson said: “We are celebrating 30 years since we first opened our doors to the local community. Celebrations will last all day and everyone in the local community is invited.”
The running order for the day is as follows (timings are approximate):
11.30am: Plaque unveiling
11.40am: Wentworth School Choir performance
12pm to 4pm: Refreshments and groups. Maldon Wycke WI will serve food and drink in the Linton Room. Groups which use the centre will display their activities in the main hall.
12pm to 4.30pm: Mini First Aid (Jubilee Lounge). First aid trainer Lyn Jefferis will give 10-minute presentations approximately every hour.
12pm: Bhagua Zhang Martial Arts. The group will give a 15-minute display.
1pm: Yoga. Instructor Diana Jones will demonstrate a “Bong bath”, followed by a Q&A session.
2pm: Tai Chi. In a demonstration led by the Mid Essex Branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Great Britain, experts will display the practice of Tai Chi, getting the audience involved with “simple guided movements”.
3pm: Dog Training with Little Oliver Twist’s Dog Training Academy
3.45pm to 4.45pm: Badminton and Table Tennis. The West Maldon Community Centre Badminton Group and Blackwater U3A Table Tennis Group will give demonstrations, with the opportunity for attendees to try their hand at each sport.
