“Maldon’s oldest pub” is set to hold a beer and ale festival, celebrating brewers from all over the country during the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The Blue Boar Hotel will host a barbecue with live music daily from Friday 23 until Monday 26 August.
Owner James Sinclair says the event will celebrate the Blue Boar in a way that’s “never been done before”.
He added: “We want to show off our fantastic pub, by welcoming beer and real ale lovers from all over the county.
“It’s a great opportunity to kick back with friends and family over the weekend, in totally unique surroundings.”
A total of 17 real ales from around the UK will be featured alongside local brewers, including Crouch Vale Brewery in South Woodham. Ales from Braintree-based Bishop Nick, a sixth-generation family brewer, will also be on offer.
Chloe Quye, senior manager at the pub in Silver Street, said: “This is our first event since taking over at the Blue Boar, and we can’t wait to host it.
“Come rain or shine, it will be huge fun. The drinks will be flowing and local musicians will be playing.”
Ales will also be on tap from Adnams, Wildcraft Brewery, Bath Ales, Elgood Brewery, Harveys Brewery, Timothy Taylor, St Austell Brewery, Vale Brewery, and more.
Dating back to the 14th Century, the Blue Boar is believed to be the oldest pub in Maldon.
It was built by the de Veres, an aristocratic family who were the Earls of Oxford. The pub's name derives from “verres”, which means “boar” in Latin.
