Widespread road closures in the Maldon district are set to cause disruption for motorists this weekend, as the region welcomes some of the world’s best female cyclists.

Ford RideLondon Classique, one of the leading professional women’s bike races, returns to Essex on Saturday, starting and finishing in Maldon.

Residents have been instructed to move their cars off the race route before the day, otherwise they will be removed.

Riders will start in Promenade Park at 11am and are scheduled to finish on Maldon High Street between 2.40pm and 3.05pm.

Fullbridge, Market Hill and the upper High Street will be closed to traffic from 4am until 8pm.

Rolling road closures are also expected to last for 30 minutes each, in place between Maldon and Tollesbury from 10.30am to 11.30am; Tollesbury to Smythe’s Green between 11am and 12pm; and in Wickham Bishops, Witham, Terling, Little Baddow and Woodham Walter from 11.30am until 3.30pm.
